The activities of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society include festival and conference organization, an annual ghost-story writing contest, grant dissemination, provision of traditional music awards, publication, and hosting a folk music open-mic night. In 2008, the HCFS hosted the annual conference of the Canadian Society for Traditional Music. In 2010, the HCFS was involved in the Halifax Harbour Sea Music Festival. In 2021, the HCFS partnered with Big Turnip Records for the Music Room series of concerts. In 2023, the HCFS welcomed the Storytellers Circle of Halifax as one of its’ programs and partnerships.
